Sitting Too Much Linked to Heart Disease – Even if You Work Out, According to New Study
A recent study has revealed a startling connection between prolonged sitting and an increased risk of heart disease, even for those who exercise regularly. The research, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, analyzed data from nearly 90,000 participants who wore accelerometers to track their activity levels. The findings showed that sitting for more than 10.6 hours a day significantly raises the risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack, stroke, and heart failure.
Dr. Ezim Ajufo, the study’s lead author, emphasized the importance of minimizing prolonged sitting, regardless of one’s physical activity levels. While regular exercise is beneficial, it may not completely offset the negative effects of extended sitting. The study suggests incorporating movement breaks throughout the day to keep muscles active and reduce the risk of heart disease.
So, even if you hit the gym regularly, it’s crucial to avoid sitting for long periods. Stand up, take a walk, or try a standing desk to keep your heart healthy. Your body will thank you!
