Wazir movie review by Taran Adarsh, Rajeev Masand, Komal Nahta, KRK, Raja Sen and Anupama Chopra describes it saying in one line “The thriller is almost predictable, has sharp performances with emotional touch, intelligent story but still loses grip” Let’s find out that the movie will ‘check mate’ its competitor or will get ‘beat’ at box office cinema counters.
Wazir review by Taran Adarsh states it’s a one-time watch movie as the director painstakingly explains every movie in the story and nothing is left for the audience to imagine. Bejoy Nambiar directed movie based on central theme of chess takes the audience through a gamut of emotions. Aditi Rao Hydari is great with her performance as a wife but the poor and aimless direction falls the film flat for the public. It starts with a promising note but loses the grip soon because of unconvincing plot and also lacks flawless screenplay. The movie story plot is so convoluted that audiences comes out of theatres with more questions rather than clearing them. As per this critic, the director put many senseless things like Farhan Akhtar even after getting suspended from police duty; he carries a fully loaded gun with himself. He says that the film has hardly any space for music in it with lack of film editing style and substance. (Review taken from Bollywood Hungama critic: Taran Adarsh)
On the other side, Rajeev Masand evaluates saying even after being a smart movie it could have been way better and smarter. A thriller based on chess game offers many predictable moves which don’t leave audience surprising. Even after the impressive buildup, it turns to be mostly predicted but the performances are amazing, overall it has mix opinions according to audience mind. It keeps some people engaged for whole 102 minutes and some loses the connection with story. Last word: the terrific performance by Amitabh and Farhan with brilliant Big B scenes will surely impress you.
Komal Nahta gives positive review notes that the film stands true to its genre. It will hook you till climax and won’t disappoint you. Farhan should be praise for his performance in spite of obvious plot. Go for it, as you will get to see some brilliant performances of these great actors.
KRK assessment talks about good things about this film as it is about two wounded men coming together with completely different temperament. Good acting performances, story line above average with interesting screen plays but lacks at a particular point as audience loses the surprise because of story is so predictable.
Raja Sen “Merely foreseeable story line but thriller drabs depressingly giving 2 star rating for this chess player flick”
Anupama Chopra review states, “Having solid start as Bejoy Nambiar directed flick is inviting fabulous introduction and should not be missed”
